From authenticity

A New Year’s Dream

Hello beautiful ones and a very lovely and sacred New Year to all. Many of us are giddily happy that 2020 is leaving; what a hard, sad, and often scary year it’s been. Many of us are experiencing it in our bones, muscles, and organs. I’m looking in the mirror and, with some shock, see a lot more lines and wrinkles.

Covid has certainly ushered us into a new reality, but if one is ready for it, this ongoing experience may be bringing us an incomparable gift. The pandemic has proven that we are not really in as much control of things as we may have thought. We are still deeply subject to the vast powers of nature, illness, and death. And the gift of this great, collective humbling? I believe we’re being offered (should we be up to receiving it) the gift of authenticity. Like the Velveteen Rabbit in the classic children’s book, we are becoming more real.

A gift like this, however, comes with a high price; Some major illusions were ripped away in 2020, and disillusionment can be quite painful. Death became much more of a companion, and dissent, anger, anxiety, and the questioning of truth has became the norm. This has been the year of transparency. For many, the concept of “safety” has been altered dramatically.

Many feel restless, stressed, and perhaps more strongly than ever, hearing a call to action clanging in our hearts. We may not know with any clarity what we are being called to do or be – but we are on high alert that change is happening now and full of potential opportunity. As the mystical poet Rumi wrote: “You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep!” With the course of the pandemic taking its time, we’re not easily going to be going back to sleep.

Speaking of sleep, last night, I had a really vivid dream that I want to share with you. I hadn’t made any new year’s resolutions yet, but the dream showed me that my soul has most definitely set a new resolution. I crave dreams like this, for they seem to be one of the soul’s favorite ways to communicate with the conscious mind. An other way of communicating, by the way, is to hit us over the head with the proverbial two-by-four. I’ve had my share of those experiences, (and Covid is one of them!) and I much prefer paying close attention to my dreams!

In this dream, I was opening up some kind of new business. I don’t remember what kind of business, but in the dream, I was making a business plan. I was absolutely driven to include one very important aspect of the business, and I remember discussing it with some kind of advisor or business partner. What I dreamt, and felt adamant about was this: That each customer should feel very much loved.

I don’t remember much else about the dream but I woke up so happy and peaceful. It felt so right….that each customer should feel loved. Wow, I thought, I certainly do want that for my clients! People really need to feel loved, accepted, appreciated, and seen….and if only all businesses adopted this mission.

So there you have it. Know that when you call on me for help, I want to be a channel for love. I want you to feel it. I want love to flow through me and mirror back to you that you are truly loved. You’re deeply loved by the Universe. Yes, you are lovable, and lovable just as you are!

So many of us feel broken or damaged by our history. So many of us feel guilt, shame, anger, frustration, and sadness from this challenging endeavor of being human. But what I’ve come to learn in the nearly 30 years of working intimately with so many people, is that inside, we are all the same. Inside, we all want and need love. Inside, along with our many personality quirks, we actually are love itself.

All the rest–what we see on the outside of each other— is clothing stitched from various aspects of the struggle to survive. We see scars, we see unconscious habits, and we bump up against each other’s invisible armor. What we see on the outside of each other, though may seldom know what we’re seeing, is really conditioned patterns, programmed perceptions, and, so often, learned strategies to hide our feelings of vulnerability, unworthiness and fear.

I know that you are worthy of every single thing your heart desires, including to be loved unconditionally for who you are – warts and all. But do you know that? Are you judging your insides by other people’s outsides? Have you learned to hide your authentic self in order to survive or because you think others will reject you? What do you want for your life now? Who do you want to be in this life?

If you aren’t asleep, you may be truly understanding how poignantly fleeting this particular physical lifetime is. But where to go and how to go, day-by-day, with this understanding? Here are some suggestions/reminders of what to bring into this brand new year:

  1. Bring your intention to keep going within! Find the inner freedom of peace within every day. You need to make the Center Within your home base. All good flows from there!  Establishing a daily meditation or self-reflection time is important. Take your relationships there for inner council. Take your work in the world there for advice and blessings. Take your health problems there for healing. Listen within, then act externally as directed.
  2. Ask your Higher Self (or whatever you consider a higher Source) to show you both your shortcomings and your talents. Ask for the humility to see yourself with clarity. Edge up close to the darker places where you could have done better or given more. Just see this stuff. See it with non-judgement and open curiosity, as if you were looking at a painting; for you are a work of art, and a work of art in progress.
  3. Accept these dis-owned parts of yourself with compassion; for compassion is the gift of acceptance. Open your heart to these misguided, fearful, imperfectly perfect parts of yourself. See if you can muster some radical self-acceptance. As you open your heart to yourself, grace comes in the form of forgiveness. With self-forgiveness comes the ability to start anew, each and every day – to let go of the past and release your inner burdens of guilt, shame, and self-rejection! With forgiveness comes new energy, new choices, and the lightness of inner peace.
  4. Appreciate this beautiful and horrifying world that’s evolved from the collective unconsciousness. Accept all the people in your life who, if they could have done better, would have done better…for given the unconsciousness and programing that we’ve all inherited, we do go through life in various stages of being asleep. Accepting people’s limitations does not mean approval of them. It just means that you aren’t resisting the idea or the fact of them. They exist. What you do with your acceptance is your choice. Acceptance is freedom!
  5. Know that you aren’t alone. There is a Higher Power for good working within each of us and in the world. There are invisible forces of Light urging us all to grow and evolve. The Light shines through other people, in the natural world, in literature, art, music, all forms of creativity and science … Seek the Light to renew your spirit.
  6. Be the consciousness you want to see in the world. Baby step by baby step, make daily decisions to push beyond your fear, self-sabotage, and the inability to give yourself over to love and growth and peace. Be a warrior for living life fully and courageously in the face of heartbreak, violence, and death.
  7. Be grateful. Fill your consciousness with gratitude rather than negativity. Seek the higher perspective always. Keep your eye on the good and let that steer your flight. Affirm the good daily. Let the vibration of goodness lift your spirits, for the energy of gratitude does that. Sometimes we need some help feeling gratitude – reach out for help when you need it. Others can help lift your energy and spirit. We need each other for that!

So fly high, little earth-bound angel. As you are making plans or resolutions for the new year, please know that I am here to help in whatever way I can.

Wishing you a peaceful, joyful 2021, centered in who you are at heart – love.

Many Blessings!

CREATE!

Ah, autumnal flowers! After a really gorgeous summer of hot weather, bright, lush foliage, abundant birds, and coyotes roaming the streets where I live, the wild days of this crazy, masked summer are gone. We in the midwest are at the very tale-end of nature’s exquisite seasonal transition into sun-lit golds, rusts and muted greens. Masses of leaves are piled up under the increasingly naked trees once again. When I experience this reminder of the cycle of life and death, there comes, every year, a mix of deep gratitude, spurts of great sadness, and ultimately, surrender into the stillness of winter’s long, slow, icy pause.

For me, this particular autumn had a spell of bigger-than-usual dread to it. In these midwestern parts, where the rate of covid is scarily high as I write this, the disease invited in a fear of greater isolation and imagined loneliness, too, as I pictured myself contracted by frigid temps, alone, and at home. I had many really happy, long sunny days in nature this summer, and safe, outdoor socializing which was lovely, but those days and opportunities are gone. I had to face the loss and face my fear of isolation, because there is no way around loss and fear but to face them.

But after looking at fear in its face, I soon realized that for me, winter could actually turn out to be a rich, productive time. I could work on my writing, finish my new website (which will be reborn soon), launch some new classes, perfect my baking and soup making, file away my stacks of papers needing organizing, and maybe even get my taxes done by February! Those would be worthy goals, indeed. The prospect of getting this stuff done, of hanging in and probably even discovering unexpected, unimagined joy that the Universe has in mind for me – all this actually began to feel like something to look forward to.

We’ve all been through so much this year. I deeply hope that all of us can harvest the courage that has come from traveling a really hard journey in 2020, a journey that’s not over yet. I hope we can utilize this courage to create a vision for ourselves – as our highest Self- and keep stepping more fully into that vision, in the times ahead.

Have you begun to consider what you might want to create in 2021? Who are you becoming in this next phase of pandemic life and political strife? We’ve been forever changed by the intense events this year, and, in a sense, we have a fresh start; a fresh start because pre-pandemic consciousness is going up in flames like all the horrifying wildfires. We’re burning off a lot of unawareness. We’re waking up because we have to — we’re getting the proverbial bucket of water dumped on us and a long, slow whack on the head to boot. Of course some are still asleep and seem to be refusing to awaken. That’s a choice, or perhaps karma — though no doubt both.

Who do YOU want to be now that you’re awakening? If you are reading this, you are awakening and growing by leaps and bounds into awareness. What stance do you want to take? What meaning do you desire for your life? What do you want to create?

Being aware of who we authentically are is priceless. Knowing our desires, goals, and values can point us toward greater success in manifesting our soul’s intentions for this lifetime. The things that limit us include hanging on to past hurts and conditioning, ingratitude, inner conflict, lack of self-acceptance, lack of self-love, and other forms of self-sabotage. Often we need help to discard the baggage, to reconnect to our authenticity, and to have the courage to persevere on our path to reclaiming our innate wholeness and spiritual empowerment.

Shamanic healing can help with this journey. The work I do is all about assisting you in reconnecting with the parts of yourself that got lost in the traumas of being a human in earth-school. This is a challenging planet, and the road to happiness, lifetime after lifetime, has been fraught with pain and suffering.  At this time on our planet, however, the opportunity to transform the collective consciousness is immense. Each step you take to embrace your authenticity, your darkest fears, and even the stubborn, stuck places – is a step toward claiming inner freedom, not only for yourself, but for all beings on earth. Inner freedom and inner peace IS spiritual  empowerment. Spiritual empowerment is TO BE OUR HIGHEST SELF.  This is the treasure for which we long.

I’d also like to invite you to take a class that I think you’ll love — a class taught by my beloved Oneness teachers and live-streamed from India.  The class is called CREATE and the purpose is to help us to create abundance in all areas of our life.  I believe the class will knock our socks off in only 3 hours and help supply useful tools, along with profound energy transfers of Deeksha, to usher in the manifestations of our soul’s desires.

CREATE premiers Sunday, November 22, live-streamed, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm Central Daylight Time.  The price is an amazingly low $25.

Happiness

We just found out that the October 26 Journey Into Happiness course will be the final time this previously monthly course will be offered — so I want to suggest one more time that you register for it.  I can’t say enough about how valuable this course has been in my life and the lives of so many others. I urge you to sign up.. It’s only $49 for an entire day – so inexpensive for the potentially transformational benefits it brings to you. For more information on logistics and to register, click here

I’ve personally experienced many major changes from this course! I feel much more in the flow of love, abundance, clarity, and improved health. It seems that the Universe responds breathtakingly quickly to my needs. Even though there is fear, anger and political discord around us daily, the connection to what is sacred, stabilizing, and loving to me, personally, is unwavering.  I call these signs of being happy and I want you to feel this way too! For me, happiness exists in a state of present-moment self-awareness and self-love, and the experience of living with purpose, heart-open connection, and gratitude for both the good and difficult things that life has delivered and keeps delivering….this is inner peace.

The Journey Into Happiness course teaches us about the nature of the ego-mind, and supports us in clearing the deeply ingrained neural pathways of the mind — habitual pathways which keep us locked up in a self-created jail of blame, hurt, and suffering.

Without seeing the nature of the ego-mind itself, and experiencing that we are not our mind, we may have a difficult time feeling like we are fully alive. We might feel stuck in feelings of frustration, confusion, or numbness. We may be locked into a false idea of life, based on old hurts, limiting patterns, fear, judgment, and all the stories of who we think we are; all created by the ego.

The mind is a story-teller, but the stories are illusions.  If this sounds too abstract for you, just think about the last time you went to a movie and got completely absorbed into the plot and the movie characters who came to life.  This is how the ego operates, as a very clever story-teller.  We think our stories are the truth. Unfortunately, the stories about ourself and our world usually create suffering in our lives, rather than happiness.

What does happiness mean to you? If you find yourself thinking,”I’ll be happy when ______ ” (fill in the blank)., know that this kind of illusionary thinking traps us in unhappiness. For part of the nature of the mind is to be always craving something else, something more, and believing that something will finally make us happy.  But happiness is an inside job.  It can’t be attained simply by acquiring an external thing.  We must cultivate an experience of living in the present moment, or we will be caught up in the story, not awake to the living essence of life.

We all can easily fall into our illusionary worlds because of the mind’s nature. We have a human mind that is programmed like a computer. We are unconscious of the programs. Like hamsters on treadmills, our programming has us chasing after our idea of what we think we need to feel happy.  Whether you think you need to lose weight, get a spouse, or make more money, those desires, as legitimate and valuable as they are in themselves, will not bring you any lasting happiness when you’ve achieved them. Like I said, the mind always wants more. Please do seek to fulfill your dreams and goals, but please also take a hard look at the nature of your own mind and conditioned beliefs, so you can step outside of the self-sabotage!

When you observe your mind at work, noticing the constant chatter of judgmental comments, assumptions, and inner self-abuse, you will be able to see that inside your head is a self-generating negativity machine.  Unfortunately, without the awareness of this inner chatterbox’s power to shape our reality, we are dominated and sabotaged by it.  We identify with our thoughts, thinking that the defense mechanisms we’ve spent a life time cultivating, actually serve our well-being.  They don’t.  Generally, they keep us from love, connection, creativity, and abundance.

When we become aware of the ego-mind, with all its techniques and strategies for protection from pain,  we penetrate its powerful smokescreen. Voila, behind all that smoke is one’s true nature – the essence of spirit and essence of all life.  Behind the smokescreen lies a sacred higher intelligence that sees, loves, and is the energy of every living thing.  This sacred intelligence is in you, as you, imbuing your self-awareness with abundant life and peace.

I invite you to experience your true nature and shift those unconscious false beliefs and self-sabotaging patterns that hinder your inner peace. This course will help you. Take this course and for one special day, take a deep dive into the Universe’s mystical, as well as practical, very loving embrace. PLEASE REGISTER BY OCTOBER 23.  Register here: If you have any questions about the course, or are wondering if you might benefit from it, please reach out by phone or email to me at: 773-791-8425 or paula@fromtheheartcenter.com.

Love and Light!

4 days left for special pricing!

Are you in full bloom yet?

If your soul is calling you, whispering in your ear that it’s time to really blossom, consider that everything you need for happiness and fulfillment is within your heart. The challenge, however, when we’ve experienced pain, trauma, loss, and fear, is that we might feel stuck or shut down. We might feel overwhelmed, or that we can’t grow beyond the same old patterns, or the same old self-sabotaging fears and negativity. We might doubt our worth – feeling not good enough. We might find that our heart feels closed to receiving or giving love. We may feel the emptiness of addiction, and the loneliness of disconnection.

These states can be symptoms of soul loss. In shamanic terms, when people have been hurt or traumatized, a part of their soul, their consciousness, disconnects to survive the pain. When this happens, we can go numb and unconscious. We can have difficulty feeling our feelings, especially feeling the innately natural state of joy. The traumas of childhood and past lives can keep us feeling stuck. unable to fully integrate the painful or confusing circumstances of the past so we can move forward with the flow of life.

In order to integrate the difficult experiences, we need a higher vibration – a Higher Power – to intercede and reconnect us to these fragmented parts of our self, so that our soul can blossom with it’s radiant, natural Light. What we need might be a shamanic soul retrieval of disconnected consciousness, and extraction of the blocking energy of unprocessed hurt. A shamanic practitioner is a channel for higher energies to shift the stuck energy and restore adults, children, and animals to greater inner peace, health, joy, and spiritual empowerment.

I’ve been doing this shamanic soul retrieval and extraction work for over 26 years. It is truly miraculous. Each session is unique to the receiver, In these sessions, people are brought more consciously into present time, with more clarity and more heart opening. Heavy loads of the past are lifted. Relationships change, self-awareness increases, abundance flows more fully, and best of all, people become more centered in their heart and more fully embodied.

The heart is where it’s at, my friends. It’s the magic portal to real happiness, no matter what is happening in the external world. And we know how much negativity is drenching our collective consciousness. Working on expressing the beauty, compassion, kindness, creativity, and wisdom of your heart is the biggest gift you can give to the world. Empowering yourself to be happy will benefit all of us.

So for 4 more days, I’m offering $30 off a two-hour soul retrieval and extraction session. That brings the cost to $210. If you purchase by the end of this month, you can have your session in September. So let’s improve this troubled world, one precious soul at a time. Please pass this on to anyone you know who might benefit. Reach out if you’d like to discuss whether this type of session may be a fit for you. 773-791-8425 or paula@fromtheheartcenter.com

With deep gratitude for the spiritual warrior that you are!

Naked Faces, Illegal Hugs & last call for 20% off sale

I took this selfie last summer, when I was experimenting with wearing a face mask due to a troublesome allergy reaction. How eerily prophetic that less than a year later, we are all wearing face masks.

I have come to take a lot for granted. I believe we’re all waking up to that fact. I’ve taken safety for granted. I’ve taken healthy air for granted. And I’m realizing that I’ve taken faces for granted. Beautiful, bare faces — but no longer! Faces reveal so much about us. We are actually quite vulnerable when people see our faces, and I don’t mean just vulnerable to the virus. And how about eyes?  How fascinating and expressive eyes are when they are peeking over masks! Have you noticed?

There’s another thing that many folks take for granted; Some of us single-living folks are not being touched much these days. Typically, we get hugs, handshakes, and so many other pats or platonic touches in our daily life. But now those precious connections are paused. We don’t even accidentally bump into anyone. We’re not being massaged, or routinely getting chiropractic treatments either, unless it’s really essential.  We’re not getting our hair washed, cut and fluffed. Touch-hunger is a real thing, and the body registers lack of touch on physical, spiritual, and psychological levels.

My sister, who lives abroad, told me last week that her young grand-kids finally came over to visit their beloved granny. In their country, there have been very strict rules about traveling outside the immediate home area. But they’d all been missing each other something awful.  So they donned their masks, and as the country’s rules relaxed a bit, they decided to try to safely visit outside. However, in the end, neither my sister nor the kids could resist hugging each other. At least they kept their masks on. “Illegal” it may have been, and hopefully not too risky since they’d all been practicing sheltering-at-home, but the joy felt from it was immeasurable.

Being touched is a crucial need for humans. It soothes anxiety and helps our nervous, digestive, and immune systems. Going without being touched has some big drawbacks. I had to ask myself, as I contemplated my own situation of living alone, what can help mitigate this really fundamental need of humans to feel connection through touch?

I did a little internet searching and found an interesting article in Time Magazine on ways to try to compensate for the lack of skin contact now, in light of Covid-19:

https://time.com/5817453/coronavirus-human-touch/

The article describes how online video chatting, virtual dance parties and online group yoga or exercise classes can aid connection and stimulate hormones being released that are similar to the hormonal stimulation of touch. It’s so valuable to connect with others at this unprecedented time, and thank goodness for online access to other humans.

This is also an incredibly great time to connect deeply, not only with others, but also with your own soul. It’s important to feel compassion for ourselves and for what we’re going through. Don’t isolate from others, and also don’t turn away from the life of your soul. The soul hungers too. The soul cultivates courage. The nourishment we’re seeking now for courage can’t come from cookies, chocolate, alcohol or drugs that might be tempting as we try to escape the current reality. That escapism is human, and let’s be realistic, probably necessary at times, but ultimately, it’s only a temporary band-aid. It can’t be a steady, pandemic diet because it won’t nourish the courage we all need.

It’s such a blessing to connect spiritually with whatever is sacred to you – whether you call it Spirit, the Universe, God, Higher Power, Higher Self…whatever that is to you. So meditate, chant, pray…do whatever you’re called to do spiritually. Especially sweet is to connect with others who are on a spiritual path, which truly feeds that connection and courage hunger in a deeply nourishing way.

Shamanic soul retrieval and extraction, and Akashic Record readings are deeply personal journeys into your soul and what is sacred to you. These sessions bring you back to joy and wholeness, and connect you to your inner guidance, faith – and courage. Only your inner guidance can really inform you of what is healthy for you….and what isn’t. Only your personal guidance can give you the “a-ha’s” that open up perspectives, purpose, and broaden your world. My work is to be a channel of the sacred energies that have all our backs, twenty-four hours a day. I know that as rough as these times are, there is good that is already coming from it, and more on the way if we continue to grow as spiritual beings.

One last reminder: I am offering 20% off my shamanic soul retrieval and extraction sessions and 20% off Akashic Record readings in this month of April.  One week left to schedule an appointment, so don’t delay if you’re looking for more connection, courage, fulfillment and joy! Please contact me for a free consultation to discuss if my services might be helpful for you now. If you book an appointment in the coming week, we can set it up for May.

Be safe, be healthy,

Paula

The ruby slippers and 20% off

The famous poet T.S. Eliot wrote in his poem, The Waste Land, that “April is the cruelest month,” but this year, I’d have to say in the United States, it was March. Even though Covid-19 was raging in China in January, it seems we didn’t grasp the enormity of the pandemic until March, when we were forcefully shoved through an unknown portal which massively changed life — probably forever.  A curtain was pulled back, and we’ve been given an experience similar, perhaps, to what Dorothy encountered in the Wizard of Oz when she got a look at the real wizard, and realized he wasn’t the one who could get her back to Kansas.

Maybe we thought there were adults in charge who might actually keep things running more or less as they always ran. We thought if we played the game of life right, we might somehow predictably ride the train into a ripe old age.  But instead, we’re uncomfortably awakening to the fact that the power to feel safe and happy is not “out there”; it’s actually something we’ve had all along. We’re needing to learn this the hard way, by necessity. We’re being invited to find happiness within ourselves while the virus and chaos rage on.

Please don’t get me wrong, a paycheck and toilet paper are very, very fine things to have now. Scoring some t.p. now, or having a job, is a bit like winning the lottery. But, in fact, we might just have the power within to survive the loss of either.  I will call that power “Grace”.  It’s a spiritual thing, a gift of our Higher Self, and I think many of us now are seeing and feeling immense gratitude for the good we do have in our lives now.  Seeing our good, naming it, and being thankful for it, despite what’s happening externally, is the most important thing we can do now.  It calls in the Grace! Gratitude brings us more to be grateful for; this is spiritual law.

Just as Dorothy discovered that the Wizard wasn’t great at all, we see that the “adults in charge” are seemingly floundering and as vulnerable as we apparently seem to be. But when it comes to staying sane, grounded, safe and hopeful during these difficult times, the truth is that we must, AND WE CAN, find the power to go back home – to a sense of safety and joy.  We have to click our ruby slippers, like Dorothy did, and return to our inner sanctuary, where we find peace, guidance, creativity, joy and safety in the present moment.

The truth is that life has always been unpredictable.  We just were pretty much asleep to the full extent of that unpredictability. But on this almost incomprehensible scale, we’ve been awakened. I feel called to point you back to your spiritual empowerment. There are so many tools and so much Grace available to us, especially in this time of anxiety, fear and loss.  There is wisdom, connection, joy, humor and lots of love. There are people around to catch you – to virtually hug you when no touch is available. Don’t isolate, don’t despair. Instead, contemplate on the gifts of this time and please commit to keeping your spirits high.

It’s crucial to do everything possible to keep your vibration high. Meditating daily, thinking positively, moving your body, and opening your heart are all very good practices to focus on now. Maintaining a high vibration is so important to your health.

Do stay safe and don’t entertain fearful thoughts. It’s such a powerful time to work on your inner world, and the fruits of that inner work will manifest externally in the days to come. We will emerge stronger and better from this time. Be the peace now that we want to collectively create — that we have long been hoping to manifest.

My shamanic sessions and Akashic Record readings are powerful tools to use to heal trauma and deeply guide you into inner wholeness and rebirth. I am offering 20% off these sessions in the month of April. Please contact me if you’d like a complimentary consultation to discuss how these modalities could help you at this time.

SPIRIT IS AT THE POLLING PLACE

In the midst of early voting this week, I had a magical experience at the Polling Place. You just never know where little miracles are waiting for you!  I arrived, eager to vote, only to hear that the internet had just crashed as I was walking up to register at the ballot-giver’s desk. The crash, it turned out, delayed voting for about half an hour. I was at the head of a forming line of other puzzled voters. As the minutes ticked by, some people were wondering if they should stay or go try to vote elsewhere. What an unexpected experience to have when voting!

In the midst of the confusion, I struck up a conversation with a very friendly volunteer, who came out from behind the desk. She, of course, was stopped in her efforts to register, and went on a forced little break .

The unexpected timing of this event seemed to invite a somewhat uncomfortable invitation to ponder if this crash was some kind of planned “sabotage.” With the horrific shootings at the Tree of Life Synagogue last week, we were, perhaps, initially a bit on edge. But that settled down as the technical glitch was identified and handled.

Soon, a palpable, unifying sense of togetherness kind of unfolded.  Almost everyone was chipper in the face of this uncomfortable obstacle, except for a few disgruntled, would-be voters. But I don’t think anyone left to go vote elsewhere. It was kind of like we surrendered, together, to the helplessness of the moment and then found it quite pleasant, actually. At least I did!

The friendly volunteer on her “break” began to share some of her thoughts and observations about the political scene with me, while we were all waiting for the internet to resume. Her story was fascinating.

She was an older woman, and said she’d been a passionate political activist “back in the day” —  in younger, more agile years. Oh, she was deeply involved. But now, she said, though she still volunteered politically, she was feeling somewhat cynical and bitter. She told me, with great frustration, that only about 1/3 of Americans voted in the last midterm election. Yes, this particular ward has really good turn-out, but she thought that over-all statistic should be much higher by now, after all the effort and work to change things. The trouble, she said, was in the lack of education of children about the government.

We wondered, together, why things have changed so much and why more people don’t vote. She expressed sympathy about the ones who were so busy with kids and had jobs which didn’t give time off to vote — like struggling single mothers working for minimum wage, as she pointed out. She was also compassionate about the ones who believe that the whole system is rigged, or say, “what’s the point?” They believe their vote doesn’t matter because their needs don’t seem to matter to the politicians. These are the disempowered ones and there’s terrible suffering because of this.  But she was not sympathetic to the ones who really just don’t care enough to take the time to vote. She was angry about that.

Busy or not, rigged or not, I heartily agreed with her that we all should vote. We also agreed about how grave the situation in the world is now. It really is.

Then, from my mouth emerged a pep talk about not giving up. This is the time, I told her, to dig down and try harder. Keep persevering, amidst the obstacles and craziness. I said, and this is the time to pray.

There was a big silence for a second, when I said the “prayer” word.  It really was apparent that The Universe had brought us together for this beautiful, deeply connected moment. We had heard each other’s heart-felt despair and agreed, this is, indeed, the time to pray. “Yes,” she said quietly, “I’m praying.”  To me, our brief, but authentic connection was a prayer.

Oddly, at that moment, the internet suddenly came back on. A big buzz spread through the room. I looked behind me in the line, and there were perhaps 25 people in back of me, some patient, and some impatient, to do their early voting.   I was so impressed by the turn-out at this time, mid-morning. Then I was handed a ballot and trotted over to vote.

But in the last few words of that exchange with the volunteer, I saw some new hope in her eyes. I feel hopeful, too, because I believe people are waking up to their togetherness and their importance….the importance of their voice, their ray of Light, their contribution.. As each person realizes how significant she or he is, and how much their energy affects the health and happiness of so many others, then the world may change as we each take responsibility for our creation.

As it’s always said, transformation starts in the heart and mind of each individual first.  We each need to do our inner work to become judgment-free, bully-free, compassionate, respectful, wise, forgiving, and most especially, appreciative of others and our Divine, Infinite Self. It’s a powerful inside job, and it’s yours to do, and mine to do…for the benefit of us all.  For we are One; One consciousness, one heart, one being on the most fundamental level.  All this belief in separation is a really bad dream.

So, will you go vote? Can we effect change by voting? I think about it like this:  every vote is an intention. Every vote is an energetic impulse into the collective consciousness.  Why not make every effort you possibly can to do it?  By the way, I think early voting is still available all this weekend!

Together we can evolve, so don’t give up.  Identify the mental saboteur within, and keep aspiring to open your heart. This is the time.  If you need some help, remember to meditate, pray, visualize, whatever suits you, and, by all means, reach out. My job is to help. We are each an emanation of Spirit.  Spirit is in the house and at the polling place near you!

Shamanic Extraction: Clear & Shine

Have you, perhaps. been feeling out of sorts, out of balance, anxious, irritable, foggy, or depressed by the challenges of life these days?  Many of us are facing big challenges with health, relationships, healing the past, and/or finances. Because we are all one, we are all experiencing everything, on some level. We’re also collectively grieving the many tragedies of others, which we are very aware of through the media.

It may seem as if the dark side of life is much more visible than it’s ever been before. It seems everywhere, affecting every aspect of life, including health, relationships, nature, and sense of safety. Perhaps the darkness has always been here, to this degree, but because our awareness is increasing with deeper levels of collective awakening, we can’t go back to sleep now. There are points in the awakening process that can seem like long, dark tunnels (I’ve been there often)…but there is also, both at the end of the proverbial tunnel, and always right in front of us, an awareness of that beautiful Light shining brighter than ever. It’s the Light that we want to focus on now!

Where are you at this moment in time? Are you living in Light, struggling with darkness, or somewhere in the middle, and pretty up and down? Well, dear one, you have a choice. The choice is a moment to moment thing, and it might take a renewed commitment on your part to stay high vibrational. Given the chance, our chattering, defensive, and judgmental minds will high-jack the best of spiritual intentions, so let this serve as a reminder: Take a stand to shine your Light and keep seeking more Light!

My clients have been asking me lately, “what can I do to stay energetically clear of all this negativity? What protection is there from intrusive energies and entities?”  Those are very important questions to take seriously now.

Negativity (denser vibrational energy) is bombarding us fairly constantly. We’re exposed to lower-vibrational conditions because of pollution, food toxins, household toxins, news media coverage, political savagery, traffic congestion, hostile family members or co-workers, and, most especially, our own internalized negative messages from childhood or ancestral DNA inheritances!

Based on my 25 years of shamanic experience, I’d have to say that we’re also affected by other-dimensional entities and earth-bound energy cords with others, such as deceased loved ones, or ex-lovers, and, of course, our own disconnected soul parts, which affect our conscious wholeness and awareness of the Oneness. When soul loss occurs, then misplaced, denser energies can move in and they usually do take up residency — affecting well-being in a big way.

Where does this lower-vibrational, misplaced energy go when it moves in? If we are on the receiving or the giving end of it, it often exists trapped within our tissues, organs, and our etheric energy field. This affects body, mind, emotions, and Spirit. The energy we project outward, affects us internally, because we are energetically One. You know this to be true when, for example, you say some unkind words to another, or you are in conflict with a loved one – don’t you feel bad inside, even if you think you are “right”?  We can’t hurt others without hurting ourselves. We can’t harm others by our words, thoughts or actions, without doing harm to ourselves.

“Energy hygiene” is radically important now to keep your physical and spiritual life at a high vibration of health. It’s impossible for one person to suffer, without affecting the multitude. Likewise, a positive shift in one person, positively affects others. A clearing of self-defeating blockages or life-sucking attachments helps clear the collective consciousness. And when we shine our inner Light, the world not only notices our glow, but the vibration of our Light actually lifts others. It is said that one awakened person can affect 100,000 others. Think of the tremendous impact just on your own circle of family and friends when you are clear-headed, open-hearted, and loving!

I often remind my clients that their job is to do the basics:  to tune inward with regularity, take responsibility for your own “stuff,” meditate daily, eat well, sleep well, exercise, have fun, express your creativity, and together we can work on clearing and reclaiming blocked or energetically challenged parts of ourselves that keep us from shining. I encourage you to tune into your own energy field, and observe what’s going on. If you feel like you may have some negativity going on, and need a clearing, I’m offering a new, stand-alone tune-up session – a Shamanic Extraction tune-up, which lasts about 75 minutes and costs $150 when done by phone, or $155 in person.

This session goes deeper than the regular aura clearing sessions I have been offering, which are also quite affective with rebalancing the aura and chakras. However, with a Shamanic Extraction tune-up, I’m calling on my shamanic healing guides to go deeper, to clear karmic energy blockages (from past lives), other-dimensional blockages (entity attachments and intrusions), as well as the present-time aura blockages (usually based on “undigested” emotions) that might be affecting your health, energy level, mood, motivation or thinking. With this Shamanic Extraction session, I go through the same ceremony I use to do the soul retrieval work, calling in the Spirit Guides of the Seven Directions, an indigenous practice. When we call in Spirit, we invite in synchronicities, clarity, and miracles; I see miracles in every session, which is why I love this work. This work comes through me, and it is not “me” who does it.

Just to be clear, typically, the soul retrieval sessions regularly offered, include shamanic extraction, as well as longer discussion time, both before and after the journey, and sometimes, a longer journey time. The soul retrieval & extraction session, combining the two practices, lasts two hours and costs $230 by phone/skype or $240 in person.  Please note that a soul retrieval is NOT part of this 75-minute Shamanic Extraction clearing session.

The reason I’m offering this 75-minute Shamanic Extraction clearing, as a stand-alone session, is that my Spirit Guides told me to do it :-)).  I generally try really hard to listen to them! Also, you might notice that if time or money is a constraint, or if you don’t need a soul retrieval at this particular time, then the Shamanic Extraction clearing might be perfect to get back in balance.

The Shamanic Extraction is done via phone/skype or in person in the Chicago area. As always, if you are unsure which type of session would serve you best, please reach out to me and we can talk about the various options. I know this can be confusing, but I’m always reachable either by email at Paula@FromTheHeartCenter.com or at 773-791-8425.

The important thing, now, is to take a stand for living in the Light, not the darkness. With living in Light, there is an experience of joy and expansion. You feel lighter. You look alive and vibrant. Your relationships are more loving, collaborative, and connected.  When living in darkness, there is suffering, a sense of separateness, and disconnection from whatever is sacred to you…in other words, living in a state of lack. When you find that your thoughts have run amok and are bringing you down, into a state of lack and limitation, please remind yourself that it’s time to clear and shine –and know that you can!

Taking Refuge

While I don’t identify myself as a Buddhist, I resonate strongly with many of its concepts and practices. Its brilliant clarity about the fundamental practice of “taking refuge” really struck me the other evening, while present at a rare talk in Evanston, IL, by Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche. In truth, it made me realize once again that all the great spiritual paths lead us to the same one home…a place within: a refuge of safety, peace, truth, and joy.

Rinpoche opened her talk with a reference to the grave state of the world today. It was personally daunting to hear an esteemed Tibetan Buddhist lama make reference to this global crisis occurring now. Somehow, some escapist part of me may have hoped she’d call this global catastrophe an illusion. But of course, the world is very real. Our eager little community that night, overly packed into a warm, small room, was waiting hungrily, as birdies in a nest might wait, for their mother to feed them.

The theme of Rinpoche’s talk was primarily on the significance of having compassion, and fed us, she did. She described the path, pointed us in the direction, and invited us to let our hearts crack open in compassion; for cultivating compassion is one of the greatest gifts, purpose and essential challenges of practicing Buddhism. However, in order to attain the selfless state of compassion, one must ceaselessly do much inner work. And one must take refuge within, in order to reach compassion.

As Rinpoche spoke in that beautifully anointed shrine room at Heartwood Center, filled with delicate Tibetan sacred objects, luscious flowers and elegant pictures of deities, I was moved by the simplicity of her words. She is an extraordinary, master teacher; Her deceptively matter-of-fact explanations stripped away the illusive smoke screen of the human mind. Yes, the world is real, but our minds flap and flounder in illusions. We suffer terribly because of these chattering, conflicted minds of ours, which live in the past and the future, but rarely in the present moment.

Rinpoche said that a key to finding peace within is to see things as they truly are, and to see each other in our sameness. Seeing the sameness is essential to experiencing compassion. Sadly, we humans get stuck so often in seeing differences. Humans struggle with fear of what is different, but also fear of what is like us – what mirrors the sameness in us that we so desperately want to reject.

We’re plagued with many conflicting emotions that tear us apart. We are a hot mess of reactivity, judgement, and self-involvement, or as Rinpoche said, “self-cherishing.”  In trendier terms, we’re self-absorbed and narcissistic.

Self-cherishing, Rinpoche said, constricts us. It narrows our views. It strangles our creative capacity. The mind becomes rigid and linear.  Most importantly, our true identity becomes masked. But underneath all that mental infrastructure – or inner jail, as I see it – there is a sacred Mind that exists in its true nature. Rinpoche’s words are underlined in my scrawling notes: Refuge is surrender to one’s true nature, to the Self (capital S), to who we truly are. For it is in our true Self, that we achieve compassion and peace.

Do you know who you truly are? You’re not your job or career. You’re not your role as a mother, father, sister, brother, niece, or aunt. You’re not your body. You’re not your troubled, reactive, fearful mind either.

When you uncover the true Self, what you experience is joy and peace. Despite what is going on around you. Despite the desperate state of human affairs. Within each of us, there is a place of refuge in the true Self. It’s a place of safety, freedom, creativity, and infinite connection to what is uniquely sacred to each of us. Take refuge, people. As we each find our true Self within, we will become a mighty force of good in the world. We can make that inner journey – it’s not as far as you think.

You may need a little help. Many of us are available to help. You might want to find your community – we find Self when in sacred community too. There is a way, but it’s an inside job, so do the inner work. Find your refuge for the sake of all. We need your compassion. We need your innate joy. We need to see the Light in your eyes, and to feel alive, safe, seen. When you take refuge, you bless us all. Look underneath all those thoughts. Look outside of time. It’s there, as close as your breath. Take refuge in your true Self.

Intimacy Starts Within

“He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened.”
― Lao Tzu

Texting, tweeting, emails, sound bites; we now live in a world in which communication has been reduced to short, quasi-efficient snippets.  Perhaps the use of these things began as a way to stay better connected, but as we all know, that type of connection is very shallow.  It’s good for the basics of getting a communication task done, like announcing that you’re running late.  It’s not good for communicating anything that approaches intimacy.  Our ability to truly connect with each other is slipping away…

Deep Interpersonal communication is becoming a lost art, and, in my opinion, we need to urgently look at the source of that situation –for it is having dire effects on our culture; Our culture does not value or teach authenticity and, thus, people are losing their humanity. It seems to be getting harder and harder to see empathy and compassion in politics and government policies.  We see rampant, senseless crime instead.  We see inhumane treatment of animals, people, and the earth. In fact, we are being systematically programmed to be inauthentic and in denial of our deep disconnection.  We worry about our appearance, our money, our acquisitions, but not our hearts.

My fear is that the daily practice of communing within — with yourself and with whatever is sacred to you (like God, Spirit, the Higher Self) — will disappear like the dinosaurs. Meditation is a beautiful practice of self-intimacy, as is shamanic journeying (a form of meditation).  But one complaint I hear over and over is, “I don’t have time to meditate.”  This indicates that meditation is not valued or prioritized.  I honestly don’t know why it is so hard for us to value sitting still with ourselves.

In addition to entering into a really miraculous flow of one’s life, there are magical, mystical, subtle, and majestic terrains within, waiting to be explored and revealed when we practice daily meditation.  The nuance of subtle feeling states, the whisper of that famous “quiet voice within”, the thrill of synchronicities, ease of connections, unexpected opportunities, radical insights, extraordinary states of bliss…all this inner life is ours by birthright.  But if we don’t claim that territory, it will languish like fertile lands that go unfarmed, leaving us hungry for that which feeds the soul.  In short, we will become an automated, soul-less species.

What delivers us to soulful living, is simply to turn our gaze inward.  That requires pausing from the frenzy of life today.  It requires intention, breathing, and the spirit of an explorer – brave, open, curious, persevering in our quest to know ourselves and to be surprised in fact, by the rich abundance of the present moment.

Without connecting within, we can’t truly connect with others; we can’t share our tender vulnerability, our hungry hearts, or our loving compassion.  We can’t enjoy the comfort, adventure, and thrill of deepening relationships without intimacy.

Start a meditation practice, please, and stick with it!  Even five minutes a day, first thing in the morning, makes a difference.  Seek out what is personally sacred to you – it is a living presence within.  Connect with that – what a profound way to anchor your day and, in fact,  help humanity to step into its greatest potential!

If you need coaching or instruction in establishing a meditation or shamanic journeying practice, I can help you with that.  And if you are in the Chicago area, I’ll be leading a shamanic journey circle on Sunday, May 6, 1:30-4:30pm, in which you can connect intimately with your own spirit, in a loving ceremony of like-minded community.  For more information on that event, check it out here.
