From personal growth

What if air were the enemy?

If air is the enemy?

First, please know that this photo of me in the face mask is admittedly intended to get your attention. Since I have an extreme sensitivity to mildew, mold and dust, and the very wet spring and muggy summer in Chicago has spores replicating like crazy, I’ve acquired some mask protection from an allergic onslaught. It happens in a few areas I frequent, like the basement. The good news is that I’m moving in ten days to a new home. Plus the season will change soon and symptoms will abate – allergy suffers can relate, I’m sure.

But what if there were no escape from environmental hazards? What if our air, water, and food no longer nourished our health and well-being? What if the very basics of living became our enemies?

The mask is a handy prop as I write on this rainy afternoon, but the world situation is real and very serious; I’ve been trying to think of a way to illuminate the extreme need for global awakening and motivate some action. Many of us in the consciousness raising movement have been trying, for decades now, to motivate folks to work on their own growth in order to change the world. Global transformation must start within each of us. We have to awaken to greater self-awareness and contribution, in whatever ways we are guided. For each, contribution comes in many forms – including opening your heart to those your presence affects.

Personal growth requires some effort, self-discipline, and even risk, at times. But it’s easy for people to slip into apathy and ennui, to mournfully argue that it’s really all they can do to just basically survive in the chaotic times we’re experiencing. They throw up their hands and ask, “What can I do? The problems are so huge.”

But let’s look within and perhaps get a little more honest.  Externally, there’s the ever present, easy lure of delicious foods, all kinds of entertainment, drinking, drugs, internet, shopping…all those easy escapes that promote passivity regarding the reality we face. Yes, you might get a quick rush from “shopping therapy” or a delicious dessert, but the thrill ends and soon you’re looking for another thrill. Call them cravings, escapes, or call them addictions – they are a roundtrip ticket to inaction.

The words “longing for our heart’s desires” is thrown around lots, including numerous mentions by myself in the history of this blog. But at a certain point, and some of us are already there, what we are going to be longing for is not love, money, rest, or even fulfilling oneself – it’s going to be getting clean air to breath, food that isn’t toxically manufactured, drinking water that isn’t polluted, the sight of a bee or some other endangered species (expected to be going exctinct), a feeling of belonging in your own country, undefiled nature, and, in general, your health & life, as we once knew it. It’s all over the news: global warming, the dangers of electric and magnetic fields (EMF’s), food additives, water contamination, toxic chemicals, nuclear experimentation and threats, the epidemic of cancer, etc. Then we’re also truly at risk of domination by those who thrive on power, greed, and control – those led by ego, not heart. There’s a battle between forces of light and darkness.

This morning as I meditated on a beautiful vision of the world awakening to love and connection, I basked in bliss while also sobbing for the crisis we face; These times are a mind-blowing paradox. The opportunity to experience profound connection to the Universal Divine has never been more available. Awakening is happening all over the world. In spiritual circles, miracles are becoming as common as the sun daily rising. But it’s a reality born from desperate times. To witness the dissolution of life itself is terrifyingly sad. It’s a gift of knowing death more intimately, even as we become more intimately connected with the ecstasy of the present moment.

What can YOU do? What can I do? Here are some suggestions:

1.  Become informed about what’s really going on; Don’t stick your head in the sand. And please vote, when the opportunity arises.

2.  Meditate daily. For real. No excuses. A great app to start you out is the “Insight Timer” with thousands of free guided meditations. There’s also simple breath-watching. Just sit and focus on your breathing. Even doing it for 3 minutes, or better yet 7 minutes daily, makes a difference.

3.  Find your tribe: There are so many low-cost ways to connect with other spiritually attuned people. Check out meditation groups, non-denominational or denominational churches (wherever you’re drawn), 12-step groups, Oneness Phenomenon circles (personal plug), online communities…there are so many free or low-cost offerings! Call me if you need help finding some people you can relate to.  It’s extremely important to overcome any isolation you might be experiencing.

4.  Get connected to your inner Sacred Self and work on a bond with that.  Whether you call it God, the Universe, Spirit, the Divine, Higher Self, Nature….just work on that bond. A deep bond with what is most sacred to you is the miracle you’ve been waiting for. With that bond, a bond of friendship and devotion, you will be guided to what you need, and what you need will be guided to you. You’ll be personally guided as to how you can contribute to the greater good. Opportunities will arise. You’ll help your family – in fact, you’ll be amazed how good things might get. Get in the flow!

5.  Get help if you feel stuck:  There are a plethora of various types of healers, teachers and courses available.  One such course that is now currently being live-streamed once a month from my own teachers in India is called Journey Into Awakening.  It’s a one-day intensive, given in about 50 cities across North America. This month’s specific class, on August 23, is being called “Retreat Into Happiness” and the emphasis will be on awakening to WEALTH. In the Chicago/midwest area, we’re meeting in Wheaton, IL on August 23.  Check out more info and register here:

https://www.floweringheartcenter.org/journey-into-awakening  The last day for the early-bird discount is Aug. 20, so don’t delay registering.

If you are outside the area, see a list of other cities where this event is taking place on Aug. 23 and consider registering:

https://www.journeyintoawakening.events/

Last month, I was blown away by the shift that came from attending this one-day intensive. I know that time, money, and effort are required to attend, but the benefits are huge. I walked away with profound quieting of mental chatter, a stronger desire, along with creative ideas, to focus on serving others more fully, happiness for no external reasons, and many more of those amazing, instantaneous daily miracles. I’ve felt that every need I have been experiencing has been answered and satisfied quickly. Some people have stepped forward, unexpectedly offering moving help, for instance. Also, unexpected money came to me, intense physical pain (from all the packing!) has disappeared quickly twice, and in general, I’ve felt such a close bond with my beloved Divine, that my heart feels like bursting at times, with love.  And just to top it off, family relationships are warm, supportive, and connected. How good this all feels!

Are you motivated yet? If you want to discuss anything with me, just contact me at paula@fromtheheartcenter.com, and we can connect about your own spiritual journey and how you can be a creator of change.

Many blessings!

On Mothering

In the 25 years of doing shamanic healing, I’ve worked with a great many people who needed to find peace within the relationship with their mother. Whether a mother is alive or deceased, biological mother or adoptive, and whether the child is young or grown-up, the mother-child relationship is a sacred, often complicated quest. I think of it as a long, pivotal journey that impacts most of the other relationships in your life—including your relationship with yourself and your Divine. This is the far-reaching and powerful nature of the mother relationship for all of us children.

For many of my clients, whether or not they have been close to their mother or have felt wounded in childhood by her, the relationship with mother is an issue we generally tackle. People seek help who have had mothers who were insensitive, narcissistic, alcoholic, abusive, neglectful, dependent, abandoning, over-worked, absent, suffocating, loving but exhausted, loving but abused themselves by their husbands, loving but themselves victims of sexual molestation, loving but unconscious, and so many other types of mothers.

I’ve never kept a tally, but I can say that most people I’ve worked with have felt in childhood either a recognized or unrecognized yearning for a closer bond, or have struggled with a need to recover from emotional trauma relating to their mother; or both. Furthermore, even if they were, or were not close, and their mother has passed away, there can be layers of deep, deep grief that need to be honored and integrated. Sometimes we lose soul parts when our mother passes away; sometimes mothers take parts of our soul, and usually energy cords and unhealed connections to mothers limit our happiness and fulfillment, as well.

Did you know that babies in the womb are actually affected by their mother’s emotions?  We’re all born into this unique potential for incredible love, connection, and trust with another human being, our mother, or we take on the potential for lack of attachment, lack of self-respect, feeling unloved, and so sadly, feeling unworthy of love.  Is it a role of the dice or fate that determines the impact our mother has on our lives?

I believe we choose our mothers prior to incarnation. We choose our lessons, challenges, and opportunities for soul growth.  But when it comes to making peace with whatever motherly patterns we have grappled with from childhood, or even from past lives, the path of acceptance of our mother is really the place we want to land eventually.  With acceptance, our consciousness raises. With acceptance, our heart opens. With acceptance, we move into peace. With peace there is even the ability to love the unlovable, not only in our mothers, but very importantly, in ourselves.

When we talk about love, we talk about a power that imbues the living with life. To love is to be free of the past, to be in the flow of goodness, and to resonate with a vibration so much bigger than the traumas, childhood perceptions, and stories about our mothers that so often we cling to, well-past the onset of adulthood.

As a mother myself, I’ve been blessed by my daughter’s sacred role as my teacher.  Because of her, I’ve wised up and grown up, mainly because she taught me that real love brings up everything that isn’t love. As I raised her, and as I relate with her now, she is my sacred mirror.  I see my own patterns and conditioning. I watch her as she slowly matures into her own adulthood, and see that no matter how I might trigger her, no matter how she may judge me for my unconscious personality patterns, nothing can really change how much I love her.  And hopefully she feels that way about me. I see that same amazing power of love between me and my mother, despite the years of differences, judgments, and distance at times.

I think this Mother’s Day holiday, as mixed as it may be for people depending on their relationships with their mothers or their children, is a great day to take stock of what needs to be honored, what needs to be healed, what old stories need to be seen, and what still needs mothering within one’s self.  Ultimately, we will all benefit by becoming our own gorgeous, all-powerful Divine Mother; She who lives within our precious heart.  In June, we’ll talk about connecting with our inner Divine Father, for he shall have his day too!

To all who are practicing mothering or being mothered, I wish you the blessings of this Mother’s Day. Not the cheery, Hallmark version, but the hot, molten mother-love that rocks this planet and keeps the stars twinkling in the night sky; the Divine Mother known by all her many goddess names in all cultures and spiritual traditions, all over the world.

Honor the Mother Goddess in you, as well as the earth-bound, possibly un-awakened human goddess who you gave birth to you.  Perhaps you’ll see in her the genetic seeds of Gaia, our sacred Mother Earth.  Perhaps you’ll find her potential in Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and rebirth, or Hathor, the Egyptian mother goddess of the sky, or Lilith, the Middle Eastern goddess of abundance, or Selene, the ancient Greek goddess of the moon. Look within today, and perhaps you’ll see sacred Mother Mary, or the compassionate Amma, the Hugging Saint, or the beautiful Avatar/Divine Mother Sri Amma, of the Golden Age Movement.

If you’re a mother to another being (doggie mom, kitty mom), mentor, generous donor, volunteer, loving friend, doting grandma, healer, or teacher, know that you embody the power of love, in all its many motherly forms. Happy Mother’s Day! The Divine Mother in me honors the Divine Mother in you.

Where Is The Stuckness In You?

As I write this, during the evening of January 24, our federal government is still stuck in a big, ugly quagmire of polarization. It was a disappointing day when the votes were tallied, and a bill wasn’t passed that would end the shutdown. We’re witnessing a massive battle among those with power, our elected representatives, who are currently representing huge political divides among the American people.  But there is one fact I haven’t seen mentioned on mainstream media about this polarization. As a spiritually-driven American, and I do believe I’m in the minority, to me there is a proverbial elephant in the room — and I don’t mean a Republican!

What’s not being talked about it that spiritually speaking, since we are One, there is clearly a huge polarization within each of us. That’s right, spiritual speaking, we are, in fact, one being:  one mind, one heart, one consciousness, One.  This is where theory and reality, spirituality and science, in fact, come together and agree.  We are particles of energy in one big sea of energy.  Without going into the details of quantum physics, let me just say what the enlightened ones know:  There really is no separation between you and me in consciousness. The thoughts in your mind are the same thoughts that parade through mine.

The polarization we are seeing “out there” reflects the polarization within. The spiritual law is, “as within, so without, and as without, so within.”  Much of the time, we forget this.  We so often paint ourselves as the good one, and those other folks are the bad ones.  Even in our intimate relationships, we often need to be right, and thus making our beloveds wrong. Take a look within and think about a hurt you might be harboring about someone or something from the past.  Who was the right one? Who was the victim? Who was unfair? That’s the stuff that hurt is made of!

Who are we Americans? We are a conglomeration of our beliefs, conditioned responses, educational (or non-educational) inheritances, ancestral traditions, and all the other influences on the many personalities we “One” wear. What we each believe is based on all sorts of almost seemingly random influences. If we can’t understand why these political parties can’t find common ground with each other, ask yourself why you can’t always agree within yourself about what to eat, where to go, what to say, and so forth. Or take a look at the inner conflict we have about our partners, parents, co-workers, our self, our self-worth. If we sit down to contemplate or meditate, when we can find a moment of quiet, we can look inside and see, clear as day, a lot of very polarized dissent happening right within our minds, constantly.

When we become courageously self-aware, we see with greater and greater clarity the constant inner conflict we all suffer from.  We see that there is a war between good and bad, right and wrong, dominance and submission, control and surrender within our mind. It’s like the backdrop of our life, though. We are so used to it that we don’t even notice how conflicted we are, and how much stress we generate within ourselves. No wonder we love yoga classes, soothing music, meditation, wine, drugs, and all things that temporarily calm and quiet the mind.  it’s such a relief when the mind stops its inner contentiousness and just gets peaceful.  This is why we need enlightenment.

So here’s my suggestion of how we can each do our spiritual part in ending the government shutdown (aside from the physical world action you are called to do, like signing petitions, marching, etc.):  Turn within and see your own inner conflict.  It may be a bit shocking, but see it with all the courage you can muster.  Just accept whatever you see, because we all have the same stuff going on within.  This is the human condition. And ask your Higher Power, whatever is sacred to you, whether you call it Higher Self, Source, Spirit, the Universe, God–whatever fits for you–ask this sacred power to swoop in and help you heal the parts within yourself that are polarized. Ask to please help you to experience a paradigm shift that might free you from all this inner conflict.

We want to transcend the plane of polarized beliefs, as within and so without. From a higher perspective, we can shift into a consciousness that goes beyond right and wrong, and into the zone of common goodness.  It’s that zone where healing for this country, and this world, lies.  It’s a different consciousness, and we need a Higher Power to lift us into it. We need a miracle. Will you join me in asking for a miracle within and without? We need to get unstuck.

Love Over Fear!

I awoke this morning with a humungous knot in my chest, right at my heart chakra. I’ve been noticing this knot on and off for several days and believed it was related to bad posture – slumping, particularly while at the computer. My chiropractor just worked on that area, at the mid-back. Though the gentle chiropractic cracking loosened it, the tightness kept returning, affecting my shoulders and neck as well.

Sure, you can call it a muscle spasm, but the body doesn’t lie. What, I wondered, is this body trying so hard to communicate? What’s putting my poor heart into a tizzy? Things have been actually going quite miraculously in my life lately, yet here is this intrusion of pain knocking at the door of awareness.

Feeling so frustrated with this persistent pattern, I had a good talk with my Divine during morning meditation. “What is this thing, so stubbornly stuck in me?” I asked. The response from my Divine was surprising, yet not surprising. “This knot is fear, and it’s fear held by the collective consciousness.”

If you read this blog, you know I’m pretty passionate about doing inner, spiritual work. I’ve been looking, lately, at the many guises of fear that are generated by ego, and how it tends to play out in relationships and life. Working on this mind-based fear is a powerful daily practice. If you look, you’ll see we all share the universal desire to control others and control life. Since life has always been uncontrollable, the need for self-observation in this area is essential and ongoing. Fear is an emotion that can be useful (e.g., watch out, a bear is coming!), but these days, as a collective, we’re way too stressed and dangerously stuck in “flight or fight” mode. It’s not healthy, and we all know it.

This message from my Divine pointed my focus to “collective fear.” It dawned on me that the collective is currently having yet another big freak-out, relating this weekend to the budget-based government shut-down; which comes after a week of vicious stock market decline and ongoing international turmoil…all of which comes at holiday time, when many folks are already very emotional and re-experiencing childhood wounds relating to their families. Then there is also the frenzy of holiday shopping. Sigh.

Of course, I get it now. Fear is in the air. We’re sucking it up like crazy. Forget about the so-called glow of the holiday season. If I pick up my phone to check the news feed, as I did this morning, I’m doomed; I’m breathing in the collective energy of fear. Collective fear is sky-high now and without an awareness of that, many of us empaths are apt to take it on unconsciously, as I did. We empaths connect easily to others and to the collective. Spiritually speaking, this is a good thing, except when it’s not.

Do you know what is “yours” (relating to your own, personal list of troubles and worries), and what belongs to the collective consciousness? Because we are energetically and fundamentally One, we have one collective consciousness. This idea that we’re separate is really a conditioned concept, reinforced by the egoic mind. Ponder it: Energetically, where do you end and “I” begin? There is no real separation, though the mind is always looking out to protect its separateness.

But as I said, the body doesn’t lie, and it will tell you what’s going on within, if you listen. Much of the time, the root of the body’s problems lies in fear. Ask yourself if the fear you’re perhaps feeling, or that pain manifesting somewhere in your body, is related to anything in particular going on in your life. If so, face that fear or pain. Breathe into it and allow yourself to feel and process it. There may be sadness arising too. As we face our fears, sadness, and pain, we see they’re so often linked to possible future, doom and gloom, or still stuck in the suffering of the past.

Meditation practice teaches us that, in this moment right here, as you sit with your fear, or any emotion, you’ll become aware that it is a wave of energy that can pass through you as you stay with it; Emotions are a natural response to experiencing life, and are meant to pass through the physical body. And if your fear does not seem to relate to the issues in your own life, ponder the possibility that the fear is coming from the collective and you’re unconsciously experiencing it because we are One.

If this is true for you, try to actively process the collective fear arising by becoming aware of it. Here’s one method you can try, both for collective fear or any emotion arising within:

1. First sit, eyes closed and slow down your breathing, taking nice slow, deep inhales, and longer slow, deep exhales. Watch your breathing for several minutes, focusing on its in and out flow.

2. Become aware of the emotion of anxiety, fear, sadness, or pain that is energetically residing in the body. See where it’s located and what it “looks” like to you. It may have a color and a shape. Or it may be a strong sensation.

3. Then call in whatever is sacred to you. For you, it may be called Spirit, the Universe, God, Divine, Higher Self, and so forth. This is your personal Inner Divine. Ask it to be with you and help you move through the fear or pain. You can visualize your Divine as a bright Light, if that resonates with you, right in the center of your chest. Let the Light be with you as you fully experience the emotion.

4. Imagine this bright Light spreading out into all parts of your physical body.Keep breathing. Breathe into whatever arises. You may experience the Light dissolving the emotions or sensations, or perhaps they’re just suddenly gone..

5. Continue to visualize this Light going beyond the boundaries of your body, filling the room and then beyond your home, as far as you’d like it to go. Perhaps encircling the globe or out into the Universe.

6. When you’re ready, open your eyes, coming back to normal awareness.

Repeat as necessary, with whatever strong emotion, pain, or “charge” that is arising for you. The gift of transforming your emotions and pain through awareness, visualization and breathing is inner peace. Inner peace heals. It heals our inner state, it gives us clarity, and it contributes peace to the collective consciousness.

I want to remind you of what science has shown: Our reality arises from what we focus on. When we focus on our fears or the collective fears, we manifest fear. But when we focus on the Light, we manifest Light. When we reside in peace, we manifest peace. Your choice.

Hoping you focus at this time on Light, goodness, and your personal inner Divine. This is not to say we must flee from the news. In fact, it’s very important to be aware of what’s going on and respond to it as we’re personally guided to respond. But we must not identify with it to the extent that we forget we are Light and we are love. We are powerful, infinite beings. We are meant to be gods. Our minds can harm us or can be used in service to the heart’s infinite wisdom, compassion, and peace.

Choose peace, over and over. Take it on as a practice. Please join me at this holiday time in remembering who you truly are. Love is stronger than fear. Light overcomes the darkness. Please stay focused on the Light and let us all shift together this collective nightmare of darkness and fear, first in our internal worlds, in our own homes, and then in the world! May peace bring joy and joy hold you in its loving arms. Wishing for all an amazing new year, filled with miracles, wisdom, compassion and love!

25th Anniversary – 25% Off Akashic Record Readings!

It’s been a quarter of a century that my energy healing practice has been open for business. My gosh, that makes me sound ancient! The logo image you see here was my first official business logo.

Twenty-five years ago, I was an idealistic, awakening healer, having stumbled on a whole new paradigm for how to live my life. In a giant leap of faith, I went from urban real estate agent and newly-single young mom, to co-creating with Spirit, a spiritually-based private practice that was named, “From The Heart Center.”

That the name came to me was a miracle, since Spirit whispered it in my ear. Truthfully, I didn’t know how far my heart would need to stretch, or the amount of spiritual growth it would require. It’s a good thing I didn’t know, for it would have been overwhelming to realize the true purpose of this healing practice was essentially to cleanse my soul of the rubble of trauma, false beliefs, fear, and the suffering of humanity, in which I joined so heavily.  Did you know that as healers are helping others, they are receiving healing themselves? It’s true. That’s because we are all One.

Now I understand that we’ve been gradually working to free world consciousness from the tragically sad, and dangerous entanglements of humanity. We are re-birthing the One Consciousness that we share. We’re new at it, and it’s quite a struggle. There’s so much healing that needs to be accomplished.

I can assure you that the energy healing biz is never boring. In fact, each and every session is as profoundly unique and beautiful as the client who receives it. I never know what to expect or whom Spirit will send to me. My clients have included people of all ages, from all walks of life, from the U.S. and abroad, as well as incredibly soulful dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, a couple of guinea pigs, and a number of different gorgeous, wonderful birds – including, most recently, a very enlightened peacock.

Oh, the animal and bird stories I need to write about someday! Truth is, folks, life is not what it seems to be. Every living being is a highly dimensional, walking miracle!  Each expression of the One is a divine spark, with precious gifts to share with the world.  We are, in essence, Love itself.

25 years ago, I knew so little about starting a private practice. I’m still marveling that it’s been going on for all these many years since I’m not the best business woman! But Spirit keeps sending me astounding souls to work with — all you astounding souls — and my heart is filled with tremendous gratitude and awe for that!

To celebrate this special anniversary, as well as the holiday season, I’m offering 25% off an Akashic Record Reading by phone or skype.  You can even buy one as a gift certificate.  The normal fee is $135 for an hour-long reading, but the special, anniversary price is $101.

The Akashic Record is an energetic record of your soul; a readable fountain of information, guided by Spirit, about your soul’s many incarnations, purpose, gifts, opportunities, challenges. An Akashic Record reading is a powerful way to gain clarity and clear some karmic cobwebs. It’s good to do as another year ends and a new start begins. You bring all your questions to the reading, about whatever is troubling you. We can look at the roots of the issues, and receive guidance on options, relationships, health, finances, work challenges, motivational blockages, and more.

This special is only good for Akashic Record Readings purchased between Nov. 17 and Dec. 31. Please mention this blog post when you contact me at: paula@fromtheheartcenter.com or 773-791-8425.  Sessions purchased before Dec. 31, may be received in January, if you wish.

Sending so much love and blessings to you all. May your days and holidays be filled with Light. May your homes be filled with love. May your heart be filled with joy and faith. May you know how incredibly beautiful is your soul and our Oneness.

Shamanic Extraction: Clear & Shine

Have you, perhaps. been feeling out of sorts, out of balance, anxious, irritable, foggy, or depressed by the challenges of life these days?  Many of us are facing big challenges with health, relationships, healing the past, and/or finances. Because we are all one, we are all experiencing everything, on some level. We’re also collectively grieving the many tragedies of others, which we are very aware of through the media.

It may seem as if the dark side of life is much more visible than it’s ever been before. It seems everywhere, affecting every aspect of life, including health, relationships, nature, and sense of safety. Perhaps the darkness has always been here, to this degree, but because our awareness is increasing with deeper levels of collective awakening, we can’t go back to sleep now. There are points in the awakening process that can seem like long, dark tunnels (I’ve been there often)…but there is also, both at the end of the proverbial tunnel, and always right in front of us, an awareness of that beautiful Light shining brighter than ever. It’s the Light that we want to focus on now!

Where are you at this moment in time? Are you living in Light, struggling with darkness, or somewhere in the middle, and pretty up and down? Well, dear one, you have a choice. The choice is a moment to moment thing, and it might take a renewed commitment on your part to stay high vibrational. Given the chance, our chattering, defensive, and judgmental minds will high-jack the best of spiritual intentions, so let this serve as a reminder: Take a stand to shine your Light and keep seeking more Light!

My clients have been asking me lately, “what can I do to stay energetically clear of all this negativity? What protection is there from intrusive energies and entities?”  Those are very important questions to take seriously now.

Negativity (denser vibrational energy) is bombarding us fairly constantly. We’re exposed to lower-vibrational conditions because of pollution, food toxins, household toxins, news media coverage, political savagery, traffic congestion, hostile family members or co-workers, and, most especially, our own internalized negative messages from childhood or ancestral DNA inheritances!

Based on my 25 years of shamanic experience, I’d have to say that we’re also affected by other-dimensional entities and earth-bound energy cords with others, such as deceased loved ones, or ex-lovers, and, of course, our own disconnected soul parts, which affect our conscious wholeness and awareness of the Oneness. When soul loss occurs, then misplaced, denser energies can move in and they usually do take up residency — affecting well-being in a big way.

Where does this lower-vibrational, misplaced energy go when it moves in? If we are on the receiving or the giving end of it, it often exists trapped within our tissues, organs, and our etheric energy field. This affects body, mind, emotions, and Spirit. The energy we project outward, affects us internally, because we are energetically One. You know this to be true when, for example, you say some unkind words to another, or you are in conflict with a loved one – don’t you feel bad inside, even if you think you are “right”?  We can’t hurt others without hurting ourselves. We can’t harm others by our words, thoughts or actions, without doing harm to ourselves.

“Energy hygiene” is radically important now to keep your physical and spiritual life at a high vibration of health. It’s impossible for one person to suffer, without affecting the multitude. Likewise, a positive shift in one person, positively affects others. A clearing of self-defeating blockages or life-sucking attachments helps clear the collective consciousness. And when we shine our inner Light, the world not only notices our glow, but the vibration of our Light actually lifts others. It is said that one awakened person can affect 100,000 others. Think of the tremendous impact just on your own circle of family and friends when you are clear-headed, open-hearted, and loving!

I often remind my clients that their job is to do the basics:  to tune inward with regularity, take responsibility for your own “stuff,” meditate daily, eat well, sleep well, exercise, have fun, express your creativity, and together we can work on clearing and reclaiming blocked or energetically challenged parts of ourselves that keep us from shining. I encourage you to tune into your own energy field, and observe what’s going on. If you feel like you may have some negativity going on, and need a clearing, I’m offering a new, stand-alone tune-up session – a Shamanic Extraction tune-up, which lasts about 75 minutes and costs $150 when done by phone, or $155 in person.

This session goes deeper than the regular aura clearing sessions I have been offering, which are also quite affective with rebalancing the aura and chakras. However, with a Shamanic Extraction tune-up, I’m calling on my shamanic healing guides to go deeper, to clear karmic energy blockages (from past lives), other-dimensional blockages (entity attachments and intrusions), as well as the present-time aura blockages (usually based on “undigested” emotions) that might be affecting your health, energy level, mood, motivation or thinking. With this Shamanic Extraction session, I go through the same ceremony I use to do the soul retrieval work, calling in the Spirit Guides of the Seven Directions, an indigenous practice. When we call in Spirit, we invite in synchronicities, clarity, and miracles; I see miracles in every session, which is why I love this work. This work comes through me, and it is not “me” who does it.

Just to be clear, typically, the soul retrieval sessions regularly offered, include shamanic extraction, as well as longer discussion time, both before and after the journey, and sometimes, a longer journey time. The soul retrieval & extraction session, combining the two practices, lasts two hours and costs $230 by phone/skype or $240 in person.  Please note that a soul retrieval is NOT part of this 75-minute Shamanic Extraction clearing session.

The reason I’m offering this 75-minute Shamanic Extraction clearing, as a stand-alone session, is that my Spirit Guides told me to do it :-)).  I generally try really hard to listen to them! Also, you might notice that if time or money is a constraint, or if you don’t need a soul retrieval at this particular time, then the Shamanic Extraction clearing might be perfect to get back in balance.

The Shamanic Extraction is done via phone/skype or in person in the Chicago area. As always, if you are unsure which type of session would serve you best, please reach out to me and we can talk about the various options. I know this can be confusing, but I’m always reachable either by email at Paula@FromTheHeartCenter.com or at 773-791-8425.

The important thing, now, is to take a stand for living in the Light, not the darkness. With living in Light, there is an experience of joy and expansion. You feel lighter. You look alive and vibrant. Your relationships are more loving, collaborative, and connected.  When living in darkness, there is suffering, a sense of separateness, and disconnection from whatever is sacred to you…in other words, living in a state of lack. When you find that your thoughts have run amok and are bringing you down, into a state of lack and limitation, please remind yourself that it’s time to clear and shine –and know that you can!

25th anniversary and my own “Me Too” reflections

Over 32 years ago, I was a young realtor looking for a meaningful way to express my deep desire to raise the consciousness of humanity.  Every part of me passionately felt that as a world culture, we were in the midst of a vast, spiritual drought. We were hugely disconnected from nature, each other, and what was sacred.  There was no part of me, however, that consciously knew  how to specifically contribute to changing the world. In fact, I felt lost and overwhelmed by the enormity of the world’s circumstances and was struggling to fit in to the material world.

My real estate work did not feel fulfilling, and my biological clock was ticking at that time. In my mid-thirties, I got married and had a baby. In becoming a mother, I felt tremendous joy and purpose, but there was still something within, urging me to contribute to raising the consciousness of humanity. I didn’t know what to do with that desire, but Spirit clearly did.

A series of very painful circumstances resulted in the dissolution of my marriage. I became a single mother with a very young child. I could no longer keep a realtor’s chaotic, on-call 24/7, schedule with a small child who needed my consistent availability. I didn’t know what to do and prayed hard for answers about how to make money in a fulfilling and mutually beneficial way for my daughter, myself, and humanity.

One day, the answer came very unexpectedly when I ran into a friend who was starting a massage therapy business. I had dabbled a bit in learning to give massage (had taken a few classes just for fun), and my friend suggested I take formal training to learn to be a massage therapist. I contemplated that and decided it was a good idea because I’d have control of my schedule in a way that could support my daughter’s needs. Besides, I had no idea of what else to do!

From that point on, my career unfolded, naturally, in line with my passion to help others grow in happiness and consciousness. I studied Thai massage and became a massage therapist. I loved it! It opened me to a whole new world as a healer. 25 years ago, I officially named my private practice, “From The Heart Center.”  I also learned many other forms of energy work, including shamanic healing. Heeding a strong inner pull, I studied with various shamans and was able to share the powerful ancient art of shamanic healing with my clients.

Years later, another significant shift took place. After discovering the Oneness Blessing (also called Oneness Deeksha), and traveling to India to study with the founders of it, the opportunity to write a book about the Oneness Blessing fell in my lap. A publisher wanted a book about it; I said “yes” to another long-held dream, to write. I am so incredibly grateful to Spirit and to the publisher for that opportunity to contribute, and for overcoming my fears in order to do it!

In retrospect, I see how my Divine guided me through every step to the work I love and the contribution to raising humanity’s consciousness that I longed to make. I was also naturally led to become a certified holistic health coach, and embraced the joy of helping people sync their their lifestyle and health goals with their spiritual values.

The spiritual path is filled with so much synchronicity and unexpected blessings. Not much in my life has been pre-planned. Sometimes guidance has come as a closed door that forced me to seek out another door to open. I’ve had my share of slammed doors and scary moments, but walking through those open doors have only required taking one baby step after another — in order to arrive at a purpose I never could have planned.  It all starts with a very passionate intention and, clearly, Divine grace. If you reflect on your own life, I’m sure you’ll recall the many synchronicities and miracles that have led you to be who you are now. There is so much for each of us to be grateful for!

To be sure, like so many of you, I’ve had many significant challenges along the way. I’ll continue to write about these in future blogs, in hopes that my experiences shed light on your own. But given the current timeliness, I want to briefly mention my own experiences with sexual violations. I’ve had three “Me Too” moments in earlier years of my career, in which I experienced inappropriate sexual behavior from men, and confronted the perpetrators. In two out of these three cases, when I reported my experiences to some people in pertinent “authority” roles, to my surprise, in each case, over 25 other women came forward and corroborated similar experiences with these men.  I won’t go into details here, but the perpetrators involved suffered big repercussions for their actions. There is great benefit to calling out the truth. I hope that inspires you to share your own voice with the world.

I know these traumatic “Me Too” experiences have made me stronger, more courageous about voicing my truth, and have also enabled me to better assist others in doing the deep work of healing trauma. I am particularly passionate about working with survivors of sexual trauma. I would say that the vast majority of my female clients have had sexual trauma, as well as many men, of course.  Additionally, in working with past lives as well as current lives, it’s clear that we all have numerous kinds of trauma locked in our DNA and energy fields. Trauma can be subtle or very obvious; either way, the affect on our lives can be hugely influential. The shamanic soul retrieval and extraction work I do addresses all kinds of trauma, in order to restore our authentic, empowered wholeness. It helps us to achieve greater clarity, contribution, and love.

I know that there is a beautiful, eternal place of peace, hope, creativity, and love within each of us, that none of these traumatic, earth-bound experiences can destroy. It’s a connection to that sacred place within, an innate, intimate connection, that will bring heaven to earth someday.  All the work I do with clients strengthens that connection. It’s in that connection to our Higher Self that guidance, healing, and miracles occur. It’s very important that we all find this place of safety, joy, wholeness, authenticity and inner peace…and go there daily as much as possible. Ideally, we all will come to live there. There, in conscious awareness of our authentic Self, is the profound power of being present to the “what is” of life. That awareness brings us true inner freedom, greater connection, spiritual growth, and blesses all.

The darkness of the separation of humanity from Source has radically manifested in the external world now. The spiritual blight of lower vibrational consciousness persists, but it’s present right along side with the growing global tide of profound awakening. We can’t help but perceive the gravity of physical reality now, even if we wish it weren’t so, and it’s time to accept and confront the darkness in order to open ourselves to greater Light. We are each being called in individual ways to evolve. As always, it’s an inside job first. Each person’s consciousness, actions, and way of being in the world matters and affects thousands of others, now and in future generations.

As bleak as today’s self-destructive situations seem, there is a tidal wave of being “woke” in the mainstream. We are breaking through deeply entrenched unconsciousness. It takes courage and perseverance. We can’t go back to sleep, though some are clearly trying like heck to maintain the status quo, or even worse.

Being awake to the greater role we play in the transformation of the world requires inner work first, along with grace. We must recognize our hurts and wounds, and take steps to heal them. We must take action where our inner voice guides us, and we must call in help from whatever higher Source is sacred and meaningful to each of us.

I’ve been offering my services, from my heart to yours, for over 25 years, to support you in your quest for healing trauma, taking action, and connecting with whatever Sacred Source you’re called to. A shaman is an intercessor between humans and Spirit; The work I do is always to connect you with what is uniquely sacred to you and support you in moving forward to wherever you’re being called. There is no better time to grow in consciousness and joy. If you’d like to have a complimentary conversation with me to discuss how my services might help you, please do not hesitate to reach out. Contact me at paula@fromtheheartcenter.com or 773-791-8425.

Thank you for being open, for being pulled into awakening awareness, and for spreading the word that that help is available to transform your own life first…and then the world! No matter what is going on in our country and the world, please know that you are being drawn to a state of greater joy, aliveness, and inner peace. Have faith, expect miracles, and remember to take it one step at a time!

Taking Refuge

While I don’t identify myself as a Buddhist, I resonate strongly with many of its concepts and practices. Its brilliant clarity about the fundamental practice of “taking refuge” really struck me the other evening, while present at a rare talk in Evanston, IL, by Her Eminence Mindrolling Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche. In truth, it made me realize once again that all the great spiritual paths lead us to the same one home…a place within: a refuge of safety, peace, truth, and joy.

Rinpoche opened her talk with a reference to the grave state of the world today. It was personally daunting to hear an esteemed Tibetan Buddhist lama make reference to this global crisis occurring now. Somehow, some escapist part of me may have hoped she’d call this global catastrophe an illusion. But of course, the world is very real. Our eager little community that night, overly packed into a warm, small room, was waiting hungrily, as birdies in a nest might wait, for their mother to feed them.

The theme of Rinpoche’s talk was primarily on the significance of having compassion, and fed us, she did. She described the path, pointed us in the direction, and invited us to let our hearts crack open in compassion; for cultivating compassion is one of the greatest gifts, purpose and essential challenges of practicing Buddhism. However, in order to attain the selfless state of compassion, one must ceaselessly do much inner work. And one must take refuge within, in order to reach compassion.

As Rinpoche spoke in that beautifully anointed shrine room at Heartwood Center, filled with delicate Tibetan sacred objects, luscious flowers and elegant pictures of deities, I was moved by the simplicity of her words. She is an extraordinary, master teacher; Her deceptively matter-of-fact explanations stripped away the illusive smoke screen of the human mind. Yes, the world is real, but our minds flap and flounder in illusions. We suffer terribly because of these chattering, conflicted minds of ours, which live in the past and the future, but rarely in the present moment.

Rinpoche said that a key to finding peace within is to see things as they truly are, and to see each other in our sameness. Seeing the sameness is essential to experiencing compassion. Sadly, we humans get stuck so often in seeing differences. Humans struggle with fear of what is different, but also fear of what is like us – what mirrors the sameness in us that we so desperately want to reject.

We’re plagued with many conflicting emotions that tear us apart. We are a hot mess of reactivity, judgement, and self-involvement, or as Rinpoche said, “self-cherishing.”  In trendier terms, we’re self-absorbed and narcissistic.

Self-cherishing, Rinpoche said, constricts us. It narrows our views. It strangles our creative capacity. The mind becomes rigid and linear.  Most importantly, our true identity becomes masked. But underneath all that mental infrastructure – or inner jail, as I see it – there is a sacred Mind that exists in its true nature. Rinpoche’s words are underlined in my scrawling notes: Refuge is surrender to one’s true nature, to the Self (capital S), to who we truly are. For it is in our true Self, that we achieve compassion and peace.

Do you know who you truly are? You’re not your job or career. You’re not your role as a mother, father, sister, brother, niece, or aunt. You’re not your body. You’re not your troubled, reactive, fearful mind either.

When you uncover the true Self, what you experience is joy and peace. Despite what is going on around you. Despite the desperate state of human affairs. Within each of us, there is a place of refuge in the true Self. It’s a place of safety, freedom, creativity, and infinite connection to what is uniquely sacred to each of us. Take refuge, people. As we each find our true Self within, we will become a mighty force of good in the world. We can make that inner journey – it’s not as far as you think.

You may need a little help. Many of us are available to help. You might want to find your community – we find Self when in sacred community too. There is a way, but it’s an inside job, so do the inner work. Find your refuge for the sake of all. We need your compassion. We need your innate joy. We need to see the Light in your eyes, and to feel alive, safe, seen. When you take refuge, you bless us all. Look underneath all those thoughts. Look outside of time. It’s there, as close as your breath. Take refuge in your true Self.

Intimacy Starts Within

“He who knows others is wise; he who knows himself is enlightened.”
― Lao Tzu

Texting, tweeting, emails, sound bites; we now live in a world in which communication has been reduced to short, quasi-efficient snippets.  Perhaps the use of these things began as a way to stay better connected, but as we all know, that type of connection is very shallow.  It’s good for the basics of getting a communication task done, like announcing that you’re running late.  It’s not good for communicating anything that approaches intimacy.  Our ability to truly connect with each other is slipping away…

Deep Interpersonal communication is becoming a lost art, and, in my opinion, we need to urgently look at the source of that situation –for it is having dire effects on our culture; Our culture does not value or teach authenticity and, thus, people are losing their humanity. It seems to be getting harder and harder to see empathy and compassion in politics and government policies.  We see rampant, senseless crime instead.  We see inhumane treatment of animals, people, and the earth. In fact, we are being systematically programmed to be inauthentic and in denial of our deep disconnection.  We worry about our appearance, our money, our acquisitions, but not our hearts.

My fear is that the daily practice of communing within — with yourself and with whatever is sacred to you (like God, Spirit, the Higher Self) — will disappear like the dinosaurs. Meditation is a beautiful practice of self-intimacy, as is shamanic journeying (a form of meditation).  But one complaint I hear over and over is, “I don’t have time to meditate.”  This indicates that meditation is not valued or prioritized.  I honestly don’t know why it is so hard for us to value sitting still with ourselves.

In addition to entering into a really miraculous flow of one’s life, there are magical, mystical, subtle, and majestic terrains within, waiting to be explored and revealed when we practice daily meditation.  The nuance of subtle feeling states, the whisper of that famous “quiet voice within”, the thrill of synchronicities, ease of connections, unexpected opportunities, radical insights, extraordinary states of bliss…all this inner life is ours by birthright.  But if we don’t claim that territory, it will languish like fertile lands that go unfarmed, leaving us hungry for that which feeds the soul.  In short, we will become an automated, soul-less species.

What delivers us to soulful living, is simply to turn our gaze inward.  That requires pausing from the frenzy of life today.  It requires intention, breathing, and the spirit of an explorer – brave, open, curious, persevering in our quest to know ourselves and to be surprised in fact, by the rich abundance of the present moment.

Without connecting within, we can’t truly connect with others; we can’t share our tender vulnerability, our hungry hearts, or our loving compassion.  We can’t enjoy the comfort, adventure, and thrill of deepening relationships without intimacy.

Start a meditation practice, please, and stick with it!  Even five minutes a day, first thing in the morning, makes a difference.  Seek out what is personally sacred to you – it is a living presence within.  Connect with that – what a profound way to anchor your day and, in fact,  help humanity to step into its greatest potential!

If you need coaching or instruction in establishing a meditation or shamanic journeying practice, I can help you with that.  And if you are in the Chicago area, I’ll be leading a shamanic journey circle on Sunday, May 6, 1:30-4:30pm, in which you can connect intimately with your own spirit, in a loving ceremony of like-minded community.  For more information on that event, check it out here.
