LOVE SPEAKS
Valentine’s Day-Eve found me at my desk, holding my beloved dog Louie in my lap, feeling how much I adore this scrappy little rascal. My heart was so full, not only with Louie’s love, but also with love for all the family, friends, and neighbors who I love and care about, many of them going through very hard times of illness and loss. I pondered the lives of those I hear of on the news, who are feeling love and terrible loss at the same time too. My heart felt open, filled, and heartbroken, all at once.
I wish I could write powerfully about love and life the way Joni Mitchell did in that gorgeous, divinely-inspired song, Both Sides Now. Her voice and lyrics have been haunting me all day.
Loves Presence
Pondering Love, I think of all the many, many years I’ve spent in its magnificent presence. However, to this day, it persists for me as eternally illusive, just like time itsel. And I find it hard to write about Love, especially in honor of this interesting thing called “Valentine’s Day.”
But I had a whimsical thought: Why not open the Akashic Records, and see if the Spirit of Love might explain itself a bit to me. Here’s what I got:
Love in the Akashic Records
Q: Love, what can you tell me? What is the secret? We love Love! Why do we all crave you, need you, want you…yet have such a hard time defining you, describing you, and holding on to your eternal fullness?
A: There is great mystery within my existence. For I seem real to you, but of course I am not, in the sense that I’m not quantifiable, nor material at all. Yet humans experience me perhaps more often in the shadow of the Great Light, the Light of All That Is — which of course includes the powerful, creative force which is Love.
Q: Why do we experience you more often in the shadow?
A: Because not all can look straight at me, and you unconsciously fear you’ll go blind with my intensity and magnitude. But when you gaze at the objects (people, animals, nature, and things) that embody me, you can’t help but experience the shadow that I cast. You know the shadow, perhaps even more than you know the Light. I am Love, I am Life; And with me goes my shadow.
Love’s Shadow
Q: Can you help me understand the shadow?
A: Within the shadow, there is death, uncertainty, change, inevitable loss. There is fear, lust, desire to consume, to control, to envelope, to merge, but even to destroy.
You want to hold me so tightly, to attach, to know union in eternity; Life offers those things, so if you’re wise, or lucky, or weak, or confused, you commit. You commit with all your heart (and sometimes with a greedy mind), and try not to think about the shadow.
Q: Can one transcend the shadow or our we supposed to do that?
A: One must embrace the shadow here in Earth School. Be brave, love deeply, and think of Joni’s song.
